Exhaustion

Do you ever notice that after a stressful day at work you’re exhausted? Well I had one of those days. It all started out that my morning routine got messed up and I didn’t have a chance to journal. Then everything with my nicely laid out calendar fell off the rails. It was one of those days that everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Then I came home around 7pm and slomped on the coach with exhaustion. Everyone in the house wanted to share their day adventures and to be honest I didn’t really pay attention to any of it. Does this wring a bell?

Well so as I sat there I wondered what the day’s purpose was. What happened to my intentional calendar? Why was I so exhausted. Here is the thing, I allowed the fear of saying no to drive my nice blue Chevy pickup! And boy did fear ever drive. We covered miles together but that was it. We didn’t really see much or accomplish much but let me tell you did my fear ever drive. The day cost me more then I could ever imagine. All because I didn’t own the fear and start driving again. Now I could go on and on but there would be no point in that. Here is what I journaled about the situation.

In that moment I learned that I can own the Recognition of the situation and manage it. Then I told myself that it serves me to Recognize that Fear is driving. I have the option to choose and that leads me to position the second word. I have the choice to refame my thoughts and situation in order to lead the fear and not let it consume me. That choice gives me the control to accept or reschedule or leave it.

Then from a mindset of Reframe I now have the ability to choose to Respond. I have taught myself pressure tools that work for me and I choose to use them in the moment. Those tools break the stress movement and give me an option to respond intentionally. Then after I have responded I can then Reflect. This is the most powerful and most intentional piece. What worked and why? What do I need to do different next time?

Now the very next day I had another crazy day laid out. But here is the difference I took the time to journal and intentionally lay our the 4 R’s and reflect on what worked and didn’t work from the day before. Now because of my years of coaching and working through my mindset I was able to now drive my truck and put fear in the drivers seat. Now here is the interesting part. When I came home the second day I was not exhausted and honestly I was able to be present for my family.

So today there is a better way. Yes it takes work and yes its hard but the payback is so much more then anything else in the world. Here is the other interesting thing. I slept so well that night and when I woke up I was so empowered to face what the day had for me. I laid out my road map the day before and believed in myself to drive through the fear that came up and own it!

So what will you choose. You don’t need a holiday to escape the exauhstion. You need an purpose driven individual. What will you choose?

Today I walked into a field of canola. If you’ve ever tried walking through a thick canola crop, you know it isn’t exactly easy. The plants grab at you. Every step takes effort. You push forward, make a little progress, and pretty soon you start wondering if it’s worth continuing. Today, I didn’t get very

Last night my wife and I wandered through the garden picking raspberries. Our cat followed us, weaving between my legs as if he was helping with the harvest. We laughed. We talked. We picked berries. Nothing extraordinary. Yet somehow, it felt like everything. As I stood there, I couldn’t help but think… These are the

Moving Electric Fence There are some jobs on the farm that just seem designed to test your patience. Moving electric fence is one of them. The grass is shoulder high. The thistles catch every pant leg. The wire tangles when you don’t want it to. And this year, after finally getting some much-needed rain, everything

Before the Day Begins How does your day begin? If you’re anything like me, it probably doesn’t start with deep thoughts or life-changing decisions. It starts with getting out of bed. Making coffee. Brushing my teeth. Maybe you’re one of those people who can somehow get dressed, grab your keys, and be out the door
