I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Elle Ingalls—author of The Stress-Free CEO—to talk about stress and leadership.
I first met Elle through the Outlier Project a few months ago, and her perspective on stress completely shifted how I think about leadership and how we react under pressure. If you’re a business owner or leader, this is a must-watch conversation.
Three big insights stood out for me:
1. Adrenaline and Stress – Understanding what actually causes us, as leaders, to feel anxious and flustered in the moment. It’s often not what we think.
2. Triggers – Recognizing the stress triggers—both physical and mental—that set us off and keep us running on adrenaline.
3. Our Response – Learning what we can do to shift our mindset, so we respond with clarity instead of reactivity.
Elle uses the phrase “Lift the hood”—and I love that picture. Stress isn’t about failure, or about what others say defines your success. It’s about understanding what’s really going on under your hood, so you can deal with it directly and move forward.
Your stress matters. And learning to see it clearly is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself, your team, and your business.
